Anthi Pots are fired to over 1100 degrees Celsius in brick-lined kilns fuelled by dried olive stones and grape seeds, natural and renewable bi-products of Cretan Agriculture. It is this method of firing that gives the pots the beautiful colour variations, which are not seen in products fired using modern gas or electric kilns. Anthi's Directors have long-established associations with Crete, which enable them to ensure a ready supply of the finest products at very competitive prices. With it's perfect geographical situation and blessed with rich natural resources, the mountainous Island of Crete has had a merchant economy for millenia. Ancient Cretan pots were functional storage vessels, known as pithoi, and their manufacture was perfected by the Minoans, a Bronze Age civilisation which flourished on Crete over 4500 years ago. Many of these ancient pithoi have been excavated from archaeological sites throughout Europe and in Egypt, a testament to their durability. Each Cretan Pot is a unique work of art, which will improve with age and patina, an asset which will last you for generations.
